Dubai Police Marks World Drug Day with A Dedicated Platform at Dubai Festival City

Dubai, UAE: Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, officially launched the Force’s awareness-raising series of activities in coincide with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2023. 

Running under the slogan ‘Join Us to Stop It’ at the Dubai Festival City Mall from June 20th to 22nd, the campaign is organised by the General Department of Anti-Narcotics of Dubai Police in partnership with the Emirates Health Services, the Community Development Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Al Ameen Service, the National Rehabilitation Center, Erada Center for Treatment and Rehabilitation in Dubai, and other partners.

The event was also attended by Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Harib, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police; Brigadier Khalid bin Muwaiza, Deputy Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, representatives of partners, and a number of officers.

Al Marri affirmed that Dubai Police strives to participate in all international events and activities, including International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, due to the critical role that this day plays in protecting the community from the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances. 

He toured Dubai Police’s platform and was briefed on the awareness services provided to visitors about the dangers of drug abuse. He also reviewed the partners’ participation, the services they provide to the public, and the daily events and activities that will be held during the three-day event. These include lectures, interviews, raffles, advisory activities, and dialogue sessions. 

Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Harib, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police, stated that the International Day against Drug Abuse had become a significant event in the UAE, where the Ministry of Interior and all law enforcement agencies in the country strive to combat the harmful scourges of drugs and protect our youth. “We also aim to promote community security awareness and education to all segments of society. “Furthermore, we aim to promote a culture of community security awareness across all segments of society,” he added.

He further explained that the department has a constantly evolving system to tackle criminal activities associated with drug trafficking.

Hemaya International Centre

Colonel Dr. Abdul Rahman Sharaf Al Maamari, Acting Director of Hemaya International Centre, highlighted the significance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as a social and awareness occasion, where Dubai Police specialized officers engaging with the public for three days, exchanging suggestions and ideas, learn in deep about the concerns of young people, and listening to parents’ complaints. They also develop plans and proposals to create safe and stable families immune against addiction.

Al Maamari urges the community members to visit the Dubai Police’s platform and partners at Dubai Festival City Mall to gain valuable information and advice.

Erada Center for Treatment & Rehabilitation

 H.E Abdul Razzaq Amiri, Executive Director of Erada Center for Treatment and Rehabilitation in Dubai, commended the successful and influential role played by the Hemaya International Centre in raising awareness and protecting society from the scourge of drugs. 

He stated that the Erada Center’s participation in the community campaign organized by the Hemaya International Centre came from the joint role of both parties in enhancing community awareness and prevention and in constant cooperation to promote the culture of addiction treatment and alleviate the social stigma of addiction recovery. 

Amiri also emphasized that the Erada Center for Treatment & Rehabilitation in Dubai plays a vital and complementary role alongside other relevant entities in supporting and assisting individuals to overcome addiction.

The Dubai Police platform witnessed a high turnout from various nationalities visiting the Dubai Festival City Mall. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the anti-drug awareness services and took commemorative photos with the Dubai Police luxury patrols. 

The Dubai Police musical band also performed various musical shows that received high praise from the platform’s visitors.
