Pakistani Ambassador Visits NYU Abu Dhabi, Seeks Greater Collaboration

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Pakistani Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi paid a courtesy call on Professor Mariet Westermann, Vice Chancellor, and Chief Executive of New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi, on September 14, 2023, lauding the institution’s strategic vision and its pivotal role in promoting intercultural understanding among students from diverse backgrounds.

During the meeting, Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the remarkable contribution of NYU Abu Dhabi in fostering better intercultural understanding among students hailing from more than 120 different nationalities who study at the prestigious campus.

One of the key objectives of Ambassador Tirmizi’s visit was to explore opportunities for further collaboration between NYU and universities in Pakistan. He stressed the importance of enhancing academic and research cooperation, given that over six percent of NYU Abu Dhabi’s student body represents Pakistan.

In response to Ambassador Tirmizi’s proposal, Professor Westermann expressed her enthusiasm for strengthening ties between NYU and academic centers of excellence in Pakistan. She recognized the immense potential for joint academic endeavors, research initiatives, and cultural exchanges that could benefit students and scholars on both sides.

As part of his visit, Ambassador Tirmizi had the opportunity to tour the NYU Abu Dhabi campus, where he interacted with students and faculty members, gaining valuable insights into the university’s dynamic learning environment.

The meeting between Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi and Professor Mariet Westermann marks a significant step toward enhancing educational and cultural cooperation between NYU Abu Dhabi and Pakistan’s academic institutions, fostering a brighter future for students and scholars in both countries.
