Maldives – Erica Robin, a 24-year-old model hailing from Karachi, made history by becoming the first-ever Miss Universe Pakistan in a grand ceremony held in the Maldives. She will now carry Pakistan’s name to the 72nd Global Miss Universe Pageant set to take place in El Salvador in November.

Robin’s remarkable achievement came after facing stiff competition from five other contestants: Hira Inam (24), Jessica Wilson (28), Malika Alvi (19), and Sabrina Wasim (26). These finalists were selected from a pool of 200 applicants, as reported by local media sources.

In her triumphant moment, Robin expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am honored and humbled to be the first-ever Miss Universe Pakistan, and I want to highlight the beauty of Pakistan. We have a beautiful culture that the media is not talking about; Pakistani people are very generous, kind, and hospitable.”

Robin also extended an invitation to the world to explore Pakistan’s rich offerings, saying, “On top of that, I would like to invite everyone to visit my country and try the most sumptuous Pakistani cuisines and explore our enchanting nature, our snow-capped mountains, our greenery, and our progressive landscapes.”

The Miss Universe Pakistan contest was organized by the Dubai-based company Yugen Group, which also holds franchise rights for Miss Universe Bahrain and Miss Universe Egypt.

Josh Yugen, the founder of Yugen Group, emphasized the significance of Robin’s victory, saying, “For the first time in the history of the biggest competition of its kind, one empowering woman will carry the name of Pakistan across her heart. But moreover, she is carrying the riveting stories of more than 210 million Pakistanis from all over the world.”

However, amidst the celebration of Robin’s victory, Pakistan’s Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, clarified that the government had not selected anyone to participate in the beauty pageant before Robin’s selection. He emphasized that government and state representation was carried out by official state and government institutions.

Solangi’s statement was in response to a journalist’s inquiry regarding the selection of the five Pakistani girls to represent Pakistan in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. The journalist questioned whether Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq or the cabinet had made the decision.

Meanwhile, Erica Robin, in an interview with Voice of America, acknowledged the immense responsibility she carries as Pakistan’s representative on the global stage. She reassured the public, stating, “For the first time ever, Pakistan will have a participant in the Miss Universe contest. I’m under a lot of pressure and have a lot of responsibility. However, I won’t do anything that would harm the reputation of the country.”

Erica Robin’s journey to the Global Miss Universe Pageant in El Salvador is now set to captivate audiences around the world as she strives to make Pakistan proud on the international stage.
