Dubai, UAE – Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has issued a stern warning following the revelation that 107 accidents occurred over the past eight months as a result of drivers failing to adhere to mandatory traffic lanes. These accidents have tragically claimed the lives of three individuals, leaving 75 others with varying degrees of injuries.
Accidents and Casualties: The failure to observe mandatory traffic lanes has resulted in a significant toll on road safety in Dubai. Among the reported accidents, three lives have been lost, while 75 individuals have sustained injuries. Among the injured, two individuals suffered severe injuries, 44 experienced moderate injuries, and 29 sustained minor injuries. These distressing statistics underscore the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
Recorded Violations: Dubai Police’s smart traffic monitoring systems and radars have recorded a staggering 529,735 violations related to not adhering to mandatory traffic lanes. Major General Al Mazrouei highlighted that many drivers were observed making abrupt lane changes, particularly near intersections or highway exits. Such reckless behavior, detected by the extensive network of smart systems deployed throughout Dubai, significantly increases the risk of severe traffic accidents.
Penalties and Regulations: Major General Al Mazrouei clarified that, according to the amended executive regulations of the Traffic and Road Law, light vehicles failing to abide by mandatory lanes are subject to a fine of AED 400. He emphasized that mandatory traffic lanes are enforced temporarily under specific conditions, including poor visibility, traffic congestion, accidents, or while waiting for a right-of-way at intersections. Additionally, certain lanes are designated for specific types of vehicles, such as lanes exclusively reserved for buses and taxis.
Road Safety Commitment: Reiterating Dubai Police’s unwavering commitment to road safety, Major General Al Mazrouei stressed the importance of leveraging smart systems and modern technologies to deter violations. He particularly highlighted the need for vigilance near exits and intersections. He concluded by urging all drivers to consistently adhere to mandatory traffic lanes to prevent grave accidents and avoid incurring penalties.
The Dubai Police’s announcement serves as a stark reminder to the public of the critical role that responsible driving plays in ensuring road safety and preventing avoidable accidents.
