Italy – In a thrilling Saturday showdown at the Regione Sardegna Grand Prix of Italy, Jonas Andersson of Team Sweden secured pole position for Sunday afternoon’s race. His impressive lap time of 36.022 seconds in sprint race one allowed him to outpace Italian talent Alberto Comparato by a narrow 0.405-second margin.
The championship race is heating up as Andersson’s fellow countryman and title rival, Erik Stark from the Victory Team, will start from third place. Peter Morin of China CTIC Team and Ferdinand Zandbergen from the Sharjah Team complete the top five starting positions.
Meanwhile, Team Abu Dhabi faces a challenge in defending their UIM F1H2O Teams’ Championship title, with Rashed Al-Qemzi and Thani Al-Qamzi qualifying in seventh and ninth place. Mad Croc Gillman Racing’s Filip Roms will begin the race in sixth, with his teammate Grant Trask splitting the Abu Dhabi duo in eighth.
The Strømøy Racing F1H2O Team’s Bartek Marszalek and Marit Strømøy line up in 10th and 11th positions, with Kalle Viippo, Brent Dillard, and Ahmed Al-Fahim completing the guaranteed race starters.
Sunday morning’s repêchage will determine the final two positions on the starting pontoon for the Grand Prix, with contenders including Ben Jelf and Duarte Benavente from the F1 Atlantic Team, Alexandre Bourgeot and Cédric Deguisne from Maverick Racing, Sami Seliö from the Sharjah Team, and Brock Cohen from the Comparato F1 Team competing for those coveted spots.
With the stage set for an exciting race day, all eyes are on Jonas Andersson as he aims to clinch a second Drivers’ Championship title with one round to spare.
