Dubai, UAE – At the 9th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2023) in Dubai, Huawei’s Executive Director, David Wang, shared insights into the future of ultra-broadband technology. Wang’s keynote, “UBB5.5G Maximizes Digital Productivity,” highlighted the industry’s focus on upgrading networks and accelerating digital technology adoption to boost digital productivity.
The Rise of Digital Productivity: The increased application of digital technologies in various sectors is driving higher productivity, making digital productivity a key driver of the digital economy. Cloud, AI, 5G, and ultra-broadband (UBB) technologies are evolving and transforming daily life, work, and entertainment, fostering rapid digital transformation.
The UBB5.5G Era: In the 5.5G era, ultra-broadband networks shift their focus from connectivity to unleashing the productivity of digital services. Wang emphasized the importance of providing ubiquitous 10-gigabit access, elastic ultra-broadband transport, and massive computing power via hyper-converged data centers. This infrastructure will accelerate the digital economy’s development, with Huawei committed to driving the F5.5G and Net5.5G evolution.
Overcoming Critical Challenges: To maximize digital productivity, three major challenges must be addressed:
- Supporting massive computing power for digital services.
- Providing guaranteed connectivity for numerous concurrent users.
- Ensuring universal access and a high-quality experience for all users.
Ubiquitous 10-Gigabit Access: To achieve ubiquitous 10-gigabit access, Huawei aims to upgrade mobile broadband, home broadband, enterprise campus networks, and enterprise private line services to 10 Gbps. This will offer high-quality, 10-gigabit connections, benefiting people and organizations globally.
Huawei’s 10 Gbps City Initiative: At UBBF 2023, the 10 Gbps City Initiative was unveiled, featuring partnerships with the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), Omdia, etisalat by e&, MTN South Africa, and more. This initiative promotes the creation of fully connected 10 Gbps cities, aiming to enhance network experiences, boost digital productivity, and accelerate the digital-intelligent transformation of industries.
Government Involvement: Eng. Saif Bin Ghelaita of the TDRA emphasized the government’s role in constructing ultra-broadband infrastructure to ensure inclusive digital services and bridge digital divides.
Key Infrastructure for Digital Strategies: Richard Mahony from Omdia highlighted that 10 Gbps cities are crucial for implementing national digital strategies and advancing the digital economy. These cities encompass 10 Gbps access for individuals, homes, enterprises, and campuses, including advanced transport networks and AI data center networks.
Global Implementation: Cities worldwide, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Riyadh, are exploring the implementation of 10 Gbps City and 10 Gbps Society to ignite the digital economy’s momentum as part of their 2030-oriented digital strategies.
