News DeskDubai, UAE – Al-Futtaim Group, a prominent Middle Eastern business conglomerate with a significant presence in the automotive sector, has been announced as the Strategic E-Mobility Partner for the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). The global event is scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 12, 2023, at Expo City Dubai.
Al-Futtaim Group’s involvement in COP28 underscores its commitment to sustainability and aligns with the United Arab Emirates’ dedication to environmental initiatives. The UAE, among the first Middle Eastern countries to ratify the Paris Agreement and advocate the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050, is setting a green example for businesses to follow.
Omar Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of Al-Futtaim Group, emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating, “The future of business is inextricably linked with the future of our planet. As a major stakeholder in the UAE’s business landscape, we have a key responsibility to set strong sustainability targets and support our country’s climate change goals.”
As part of their commitment to sustainable mobility, Al-Futtaim Automotive, a division of the group, aims to deliver 50% new energy vehicles (NEVs) and install 10% of charging stations in the UAE by 2030.
For COP28, Al-Futtaim Group will provide a fleet of 370 electrified passenger cars, SUVs, and buses and set up their electric charging stations, Charge2Moov, at the event. Al-Futtaim Automotive will showcase its electric mobility brand portfolio and host panel conferences on decarbonization, emphasizing the importance of sustainable action across the value chain.
Paul Willis, President of Al-Futtaim Automotive, noted, “We are well-aware of the huge responsibility that lies on our shoulders as automotive leaders, and how important it is for us to initiate a shift towards greener automotive solutions to meet climate change goals.”
Al-Futtaim Automotive has been at the forefront of promoting green mobility in the UAE, introducing alternative powertrains in the public transportation sector and providing sustainable mobility choices. They have also established an Electric Mobility Company and developed a comprehensive EV ecosystem. The recent partnership with the UAE’s Roads and Transport Authority aims to support sustainable transport networks and the ‘Zero-Emissions Public Transportation in Dubai 2050’ strategy.
Al-Futtaim Group’s active participation in COP28 signifies a significant step toward promoting environmental sustainability and green mobility in the UAE and beyond.
