Dubai Police Human Rights Department Praised for Rights Protection

Dubai, UAE – Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police, recently commended the General Department of Human Rights for their dedication to upholding human values and their prompt and professional handling of human rights issues. These remarks were made during an annual inspection of the department, where he was accompanied by Major General Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, Director of the General Department of Human Rights, his deputy Brigadier Abdul Rahman Al Shaer, and other senior officers.

Maj. Gen. Al Mansouri highlighted the significant role played by the General Department of Human Rights in enhancing the well-being of all members of society, including women, children, students, laborers, and others. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing human rights within police work, as it contributes to happiness, safety, and security, while safeguarding the rights of individuals.

The General Department of Human Rights received praise for achieving a 100% success rate in handling various cases and requests. Moreover, the department attained a remarkable 100% on the internal happiness indicator and an impressive 96.8% on the government happiness indicator in 2022.

Awards and Recognition:

Maj. Gen. Al Mansouri recognized the department’s dedication to best practices in human rights, with eight awards received at both local and international levels over the past three years. Notable achievements included the ‘Safety Ambassadors’ initiative winning first place in the ‘Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work’ in the Government Entities category, the prestigious Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief’s Award in the ‘Happiness Ambassadors’ category, and securing first place in the Ministry of Interior Award 2020 in the ‘Victims Support’ category. On the global stage, the department claimed the top spot in both the ‘Victims Care’ in 2020 and ‘Human and Civil Rights Award for Employees’ in 2021, bestowed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). In addition, Brigadier Dr. Sultan Al Jamal of the department received the first-place Human and Civil Rights Award for Employees’, and Captain Rashid Nasser Al Ali won the IACP’s 40 Under 40 Award.

Community Initiatives:

Maj. Gen. Al Mansouri was briefed on various initiatives conducted by the department, including the ‘Early Intervention,’ ‘Safe Labors’ Crossings,’ ‘Preventive Detention,’ and ‘You Made Me Happy’ initiatives. The Legal Affairs Department also organized a Legal Forum with the participation of 22 external entities.

Mobile Labour Awareness Workshop:

The ‘Mobile Labour Awareness Workshop’ program was commended for its significant contribution in executing and participating in 4,300 awareness campaigns and engaging in 53,270 community activities and events during the past year.

Solidarity (Takaful) Fund:

Maj. Gen. Al Mansouri lauded the Dubai Police Solidarity (Takaful) Fund for providing valuable assistance amounting to 8.6 million dirhams during the previous year, benefiting 870 officers and employees of Dubai Police facing various humanitarian, health, and emergency circumstances.

Bringing Happiness to Children:

The ‘You Made Me Happy’ initiative, in collaboration with the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments in Dubai, has brought joy to the children of female inmates during special occasions and holidays, with a total of 445 children benefiting since its launch in 2014.

Marketing Campaigns:

The outcomes of marketing campaigns and initiatives conducted by the General Department of Human Rights on social media platforms throughout the previous year were presented. These campaigns garnered a total of 4,765,000 views, and smart services offered to the public were explained, including the labor complaints service, human trafficking victim support service, child and women protection service, legal advisory service, and the humanitarian services system.

The inspection concluded with a review of performance indicators, capabilities, cost-saving results, and the strategic alignment between the department’s objectives and the strategic goals of Dubai Police, as well as future plans and sub-department results.

The General Department of Human Rights continues to play a vital role in upholding human rights and promoting the well-being of the community in Dubai. Their dedication and accomplishments have received well-deserved recognition and praise from both local and international entities.
