News DeskDubai, UAE – Dubai Police’s Hemaya International Centre, affiliated with the General Department for Anti-Narcotics, played a pivotal role in the recently concluded 37th Arab Conference for the Heads of Drug Control Agencies. Hosted by Jordan and organized by the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the event provided a platform for Hemaya International Centre to showcase its innovative programs and initiatives spanning over 16 years.
At the conference, the Centre’s Director, Colonel Dr. Abdulrahman Sharaf Almamari, presented a paper on the upcoming third World Police Summit scheduled to take place in Dubai from March 5-7, 2024. The summit aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices among elite police and security leaders, with a specific focus on addressing global challenges in crime-fighting and enhancing community safety.
Colonel Almamari highlighted key themes of the conference, including online drug markets, new horizons for drug smuggling, international cooperation in curbing drug trafficking, and the role of international organizations and community care institutions in protecting youth from drug abuse. Specialized workshops, such as ‘the Safe School,’ will be conducted, focusing on mechanisms for preparing student leaders for drug prevention.
Expressing gratitude to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for its hospitality and commitment to collaboration in the fight against drugs, Colonel Almamari thanked the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers for inviting Hemaya International Centre to participate.
The General Secretariat commended the Centre’s significant contribution to the conference, emphasizing the importance of its student and youth programs in reducing drug use among young people. The “Recovered Journey” project, the first electronic system unifying efforts to monitor individuals recovering from addiction, received particular recognition.
Brigadier Anwar Al Tarawneh, Assistant Director of Public Security, honored the Hemaya International Centre at the conference’s conclusion for its significant efforts and contributions. It is noteworthy that the Centre holds a permanent seat at the conference, alongside representatives from various regional and international organizations, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, INTERPOL, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, and the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.
