Kuwait – Saab, the Swedish defense and security company, has achieved a significant milestone with the U.S. Navy’s procurement of its Double Eagle family of undersea vehicles for the State of Kuwait’s Naval Force. This procurement, facilitated through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, highlights the operational prowess of the Double Eagle system in supporting mine countermeasure (MCM) missions.
Developed and produced in Linköping, Sweden, the Double Eagle family serves as a versatile solution, operating both as an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for detection, classification, and identification, and as a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for mine disposal. Saab’s Autonomous and Undersea Systems Division, in collaboration with production sites in Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Denmark, will contribute to the manufacturing process.
Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab in the U.S., expressed enthusiasm about expanding production capabilities in the United States, emphasizing the expertise of the undersea vehicle team. The Double Eagle system’s adaptability allows it to be launched from various platforms, offering a deployable solution that ensures a rapid response to mine threats.
