Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Cancer Run to Commence on February 4 for World Cancer Day

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Cancer Run, presented by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, is set to take place on February 4, 2024, at Al Maryah Island from 6-10 a.m. Open to the community, participants of all ages are encouraged to join the cause and run in support of families and friends affected by cancer.

The annual event aims to raise awareness about various cancer risks and emphasize the significance of healthy lifestyle choices for cancer prevention and management. Participants can choose from three run categories, covering distances of 1-3 km, 5 km, and 10 km, with cash prizes awarded to the top three finishers in the 5 km and 10 km runs.

In addition to the competitive categories, participants can select from eight other classifications, each representing different types of cancer. Dedicated color shirts will symbolize breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, bladder and prostate cancer, leukemia, and pancreatic cancer.

The event will not only feature health awareness booths and community engagement activities but also provide an opportunity for participants to connect with healthcare professionals. It aims to reinforce the importance of regular screenings and health checks for cancer prevention and treatment.

His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, highlighted the event’s significance in increasing awareness of cancer diseases, emphasizing the positive impact of sports on societal well-being.

Dr. Stephen Grobmyer, Chair of Medical Oncology & Hematology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, stressed the importance of prevention and early diagnosis through screening efforts as effective ways to fight cancer.

Dr. Harmeek Singh, Founder & Chairman of Plan b Group, emphasized the global cause of the run, aiming to be a voice for early detection. He urged the community to come together on February 4, 2024, World Cancer Day, to run in solidarity and support the cause.

According to the World Health Organization, cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, with the Ministry of Health and Prevention ranking it as the third leading cause of death in the UAE. The Cancer Run 2024 seeks to make a significant impact in the ongoing fight against cancer.
