Dubai, UAE – In a late-night operation, Dubai Police’s Ports Police Station and Air Wing Centre successfully rescued eight sailors following a collision between a fishing boat and a commercial cargo ship. The incident, which occurred near Dubai’s fish market waterfront, resulted in the wreckage of the fishing boat and injuries to three crew members.
Brigadier Dr. Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, Director of the Ports Police Station, stated that the collision forced the fishing boat to drift two nautical miles before the cargo ship came to a halt. Prompt action by marine rescue teams led to the immediate evacuation of the injured sailors to Rashid Hospital in Dubai for treatment.
Al Suwaidi highlighted the importance of heeding weather alerts, particularly during this season of rapidly changing sea conditions. He urged sea-goers to prioritize safety and utilize resources like the ‘Sail Safely’ service on the Dubai Police app, which enables captains to register their voyage plans for emergency assistance and location tracking. The service also features an SOS button for distress signals.
The Dubai Police’s swift response underscores their commitment to maritime safety and highlights the crucial role of proactive measures in preventing accidents at sea.
