Abu Dhabi, UAE – Swim for Clean Seas, in collaboration with The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center and sponsored by Rex Real Estate, is launching a new School Ambassadorship programme aimed at educating students about ocean pollution. Founded by siblings Felicia and Almer Agmyren, Swim for Clean Seas has been raising awareness since 2018, focusing on engaging the community through fun activities and advocating for cleaner seas in Abu Dhabi.
The School Ambassadorship programme targets students aged 10-14, encouraging them to become advocates for ocean conservation. Participants will learn about the impact of plastic pollution through a series of workshops, culminating in a creative project showcasing their understanding. Dr. Elise Marquis, Director of the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center, stresses the importance of engaging the youth in environmental consciousness.
Titled ‘Plastic Asking,’ the programme’s first phase will include three workshops starting on February 16, 2024. These sessions will involve beach clean-ups, discussions on plastic’s journey, and creative expression of their learnings. The students’ projects will be presented at the 2024 Swim for Clean Seas event on April 20, 2024, alongside talks by environmental experts.
Felicia Agmyren, co-founder of Swim for Clean Seas and managing partner of Rex Real Estate, emphasizes the role of education in driving sustainable change, hoping that knowledge gained by students will permeate households and positively impact the community.
The initiative represents a collaborative effort to promote environmental awareness and foster a sense of responsibility towards protecting our oceans.
