AlUla, Saudi Arabia – Swissport, a global leader in airport ground services and air cargo handling, has expanded its network in Saudi Arabia with the addition of Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz International Airport at Al-Ula (ULH). The inaugural flight serviced by Swissport was a Royal Jordanian flight from Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan. Swissport will provide Royal Jordanian with passenger services and ramp handling at Al-Ula, initially handling two weekly flights to and from Amman.
Chris Browne, CEO of Swissport Saudi Arabia, expressed delight at offering high-quality aviation services at Al-Ula and emphasized the company’s commitment to the region. Dirk Goovaerts, Swissport’s CEO for Continental Europe, Middle East, and Africa, highlighted the strategic importance of Al-Ula in strengthening Swissport’s position in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Ula, an ancient Arabian oasis and burgeoning tourism destination, welcomed over two million passengers in 2023. Swissport’s strategic partnership with ASYAD Holding aims to further accelerate growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with plans to expand operations in air cargo handling, airport ground services, and lounge hospitality business, including with Saudi carriers.
In 2023, Swissport in Saudi Arabia served 7.7 million passengers and handled 28,000 flights across six airports. Globally, Swissport provided best-in-class airport ground services for 232 million passengers and handled 4.7 million tons of air freight at 115 air cargo centers. With around 60,000 employees, Swissport operates at 286 airports in 44 countries on six continents.
