Gurbaz’s Century Secures Afghanistan’s Win Over Ireland

Sharjah, UAE – In a riveting clash at Sharjah on Thursday, Afghanistan clinched victory by a margin of 35 runs against Ireland in the first One-Day International (ODI). The match witnessed an exceptional display of batting prowess from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who powered his team to success with a stellar century.

Batting first, Afghanistan asserted dominance by posting a commanding total of 310/5 in their allotted 50 overs. Ibrahim Zadran laid a solid foundation with a composed knock of 60, forming a formidable opening partnership of 150 runs alongside the prolific Gurbaz, who showcased his brilliance with a splendid century, notching up 121 runs.

Despite a shaky start that saw Ireland lose three wickets with just 34 runs on the board, Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker staged a remarkable recovery. The duo exhibited resilience, forging a crucial partnership of 173 runs for the fourth wicket. Tector stole the spotlight with an outstanding century, registering 138 runs, while Tucker contributed valiantly with an impressive 85.

However, Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by Fazalhaq Farooqi and debutant Allah Ghazanfar, staged a commendable comeback, restricting Ireland to 275/8. Farooqi’s impressive figures of 4-51 played a pivotal role in stifling Ireland’s chase, while Ghazanfar showcased promise with an economical spell.
