Dubai, UAE – The Dubai Police Misdemeanor and Violations Prison Department has kicked off the Dubai Police Ramadan Games, a unique initiative aimed at rehabilitating inmates through sports. The tournament has garnered the participation of 98 inmates, competing in table tennis, billiards, and chess.
The event was inaugurated by Brigadier Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, alongside his Deputy, Brigadier Salah Juma Bu Osaiba, and other high-ranking officials.
Under the guidance of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and the supervision of Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigation Affairs, the department organizes a variety of sports tournaments, mental competitions, and educational programs throughout the year.
These initiatives are designed to actively engage inmates, significantly boosting their morale and enhancing their physical capabilities. Brig. Julfar highlighted the positive impact of these activities on the inmates’ ability to harness their potential and use their leisure time productively.
The tournaments also aim to instill happiness and a positive spirit among the inmates, encouraging them to partake in various activities and competitions. “They also contribute to maintaining their physical fitness, mental agility, and improving their overall quality of life within the prison environment,” concluded Brig. Julfar.
The competition is structured with 40 inmates participating in billiards, 30 in table tennis, and 28 in chess. The organizing committee has set aside trophies, gold and silver medals, and other incentives for the victors, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and achievement.
This initiative reflects the Dubai Police’s commitment to the holistic development and rehabilitation of inmates, providing them with opportunities to engage in constructive activities during their incarceration.
