Dubai, UAE – Dubai Holding, a prominent global investment company, has concluded its highly anticipated ‘Innovate for Tomorrow’ sustainability challenge, aimed at fostering innovative solutions to pressing environmental issues. The challenge garnered international attention, receiving 150 submissions from around the globe, with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.
The challenge, hosted at Dubai’s iconic Museum of the Future, showcased five finalists who presented their impactful solutions before a distinguished panel of judges and senior industry figures. The event highlighted initiatives addressing economic circularity, resource efficiency, waste minimization, and consumer education, pivotal to accelerating the UAE’s journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Frank Cato Lahti of Othalo, Norway, emerged as the winner with his groundbreaking ‘Upcycling Plastic into Homes’ solution. His innovative approach earned him an exclusive opportunity for funded implementation through a pilot program with Dubai Holding. Rana Hajirasouli, representing The Surpluss from the UAE, was recognized as the runner-up for her ‘Transforming Excess into Equal Access’ initiative, demonstrating significant promise in sustainable resource management.
The finalists, including representatives from Manhat (UAE), Mi Terro (USA), and Midori (UAE), showcased a diverse range of solutions addressing various aspects of sustainability, from waste reduction to supply chain resilience.
Huda Buhumaid, Chief Impact Officer at Dubai Holding, commended the participants for their dedication to sustainability and innovation, emphasizing the crucial role of entrepreneurship in driving positive change. She expressed pride in the quality and diversity of ideas presented, reflecting a robust commitment to advancing the UAE’s sustainability agenda.
