Olbia, Italy – Canadian rookie Rusty Wyatt delivered a stellar performance, leading from start to finish to claim victory in the first of two Sprint races at the Regione Sardegna Grand Prix of Italy. Wyatt’s win, secured by a margin of 9.463 seconds, earned him 10 valuable championship points.

Wyatt faced a tough challenge from defending World Champion Jonas Andersson at the start but managed to maintain his lead through the opening turns. As the race progressed, Wyatt increased his lead over Andersson, ultimately posting the fastest lap of the weekend at 36.962 seconds. Double World Champion Sami Seliö also made a significant move, securing third place for the Red Devil-SMC F1 Team.

Wyatt expressed his satisfaction with the race, stating, “He (Jonas) got one heck of a start and was pulling me for a second but we have to commit to lanes. I had to push him out. He gave us some room and we pulled away in the calmer water. We had it all out there and wanted to see what the boat could go in the calmer waters. We hope that we can pull this one off this afternoon.”

The race saw Erik Stark, the championship leader, fall back to fourth after Seliö’s strong start. Stefan Arand rounded out the top five, with Ben Jelf finishing sixth after passing Marit Strømøy, who took seventh. Maverick Racing’s Cédric Deguisne finished eighth, while Duarte Benavente faced ongoing engine issues, forcing him to withdraw.
