Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival Returns for Its 9th Edition

Ajman, UAE – Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, the Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD) will launch the ninth edition of the Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival. The festival, a significant cultural event in the region, will be held at the Emirates Hospitality Hall in Ajman from July 24 to 28, 2024.

Sheikh AbdulAziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of ADTD, highlighted the festival’s role in promoting the importance of palm trees and dates in Emirati society. He stated, “The Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival is a vital platform to highlight the significance of palm trees and dates in Emirati society, reflecting the importance of this product as a symbol of national identity and heritage values. Through this festival, we aim to promote the sustainability of the heritage and agricultural sectors in the country.”

Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General of ADTD, emphasized the festival’s contribution to preserving heritage and promoting sustainable agriculture. He remarked, “The Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival is one of the most prominent events offering significant heritage, agricultural, and economic roles, embodying Ajman’s commitment to preserving heritage and promoting sustainable culture and agriculture.”

Preparations for the festival have been completed, including the setup of the main stage, traditional market, and learning workshop areas. The festival will feature a daily program of artistic and cultural performances, competitions, and workshops catering to all ages. Coordination with farmers, beekeepers, small business owners, and artisans has also been finalized.

The festival aims to enhance the value of palm trees as symbols of Emirati heritage, support local farmers and beekeepers, and integrate artistic and cultural elements into social and heritage events. Entities such as the Ministry of Community Development, Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, and various Sharjah Museums are participating in organizing the workshops.

The traditional market will feature 56 shops, including farmers’ markets, honey shops, and stores selling clothes and Ajman-themed souvenirs. The festival includes a prize pool of approximately AED 500,000, with awards for the top entries in three categories focusing on dates, citrus fruits, and honey.

Strict regulations require participating products to be locally produced in the UAE, and land ownership documents must be presented upon registration. Entries will be accepted from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The Ajman Department of Tourism Development invites visitors to enjoy an experience that reflects the beauty of Emirati heritage, supports local agriculture, and preserves the UAE’s heritage. The festival will be open from July 24 to 28, from 10 AM to 11 PM at the Emirates Hospitality Hall in Ajman.
