Abu Dhabi, UAE – Silal, the UAE’s leading food and technology company, has announced a significant expansion of its operations with the acquisition of a majority stake in Al Bakrawe Holding, a prominent importer, exporter, and distributor of fresh fruits and vegetables in the region. This strategic move positions Silal as one of the largest and most innovative suppliers of fresh produce in the UAE.

The acquisition will enhance Silal’s ability to deliver a diverse range of high-quality fruits and vegetables year-round, combining Al Bakrawe’s extensive global sourcing network with Silal’s existing partnerships with local farms. This transaction demonstrates Silal’s ongoing commitment to being the preferred supplier to wholesalers, retailers, and food service providers across the region.

Founded in 2002, Al Bakrawe Holding has established itself as one of the region’s largest distributors of fresh produce, managing over 49,000 twenty-foot equivalents (TEUs) annually. The company supplies a wide array of fresh produce, sourced from over 550 suppliers across 50 countries, to more than 650 customers in 20 markets globally. Al Bakrawe is well-known for its strong relationships with major retail chains in the UAE and its distribution of renowned international brands.

This acquisition is Silal’s third major transaction in the food sector, following its earlier acquisitions of SAFCO International and Sherwood, both key players in the UAE’s food distribution and agricultural sectors.

Salmeen Alameri, CEO of Silal, highlighted the significance of this acquisition, stating, “This strategic acquisition strengthens our regional presence and enhances our ability to deliver the highest quality products to our consumers. By integrating Al Bakrawe Holding’s robust supply chain capabilities and leveraging their extensive industry expertise, we have strengthened our position to address the growing demands of our market.”

Ammar Bakri, Group CEO of Al Bakrawe Holding, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting, “This collaboration with Silal allows us to continue providing our customers with the highest quality fresh produce while contributing to developing a sustainable food ecosystem in the UAE and the region.”

With this acquisition, Silal is set to further its ambitions of creating a sustainable food ecosystem in the UAE, prioritizing quality, reliability, and innovation in its offerings. The company looks forward to the new opportunities this partnership will bring as it continues to set new standards in the industry.
