Dubai, UAE – Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, UAE, has lauded the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant as a landmark achievement for the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. According to Dr. Al Dahak, the plant not only symbolizes the UAE’s advanced national capabilities but also sets a global standard for rapid clean energy transition.

Dr. Al Dahak emphasized, “Barakah now represents the largest decarbonization effort in the UAE and reflects the UAE’s commitment to curb carbon emissions by 2030. The plant generates safe, clean, and reliable 24/7 electricity for the United Arab Emirates, supporting our nation’s social and economic growth while addressing climate change.”

As a result, the Barakah Plant has become a sustainable pioneer, spearheading the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategy. The UAE has shown significant leadership in the global energy transition. Over the past five years, it has added more clean electricity annually than any other nation, with over 75% of this increase attributed to Barakah.

At the COP28 summit, 22 nations, including the UAE, agreed to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050. The increasing demand for electricity, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology, highlights the essential role of nuclear energy. As a stable and reliable source of clean energy, nuclear power is crucial for decarbonizing energy systems and achieving Net Zero objectives.
