Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Launches Pakistan Business Council

Sharjah, UAE – The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has officially inaugurated the Pakistan Business Council, marking a pivotal advancement in economic cooperation between Sharjah and Pakistan. This initiative aims to amplify trade and investment exchanges, leverage mutual opportunities, and bolster the private sector’s contribution to comprehensive economic development.

The launch ceremony, held at SCCI’s headquarters, was attended by distinguished guests including Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI; Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE; Waleed Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Vice Chairman of SCCI; Hussain Muhammad, Consul General of Pakistan, and key members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Other notable attendees included Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Abdulaziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations Department at SCCI, and Syed Muhammad Tahir, Chairman of the Founding Committee of the Pakistan Business Council, along with representatives of the Pakistani business community in Sharjah.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais highlighted the significance of the Pakistan Business Council, emphasizing its role as a crucial addition to the network of business councils under SCCI. He noted that these councils serve as ideal platforms for fostering connections, collaborations, and partnerships among companies, thereby enhancing economic cooperation and cross-border investments.

The UAE and Pakistan have a historically strong relationship, further evidenced by a 30% increase in non-oil foreign trade between the two nations, reaching AED 25.7 billion in 2022 compared to AED 19.8 billion in 2021. The UAE’s commitment to investing $10 billion in Pakistan’s key economic sectors underscores the strategic partnership and mutual dedication to economic growth.

Faisal Niaz Tirmizi commended SCCI’s efforts, noting that the establishment of the Pakistan Business Council will significantly enhance employment opportunities and drive innovation across various sectors, adding substantial value to both economies. He emphasized the vast potential for increased bilateral trade between the UAE and Pakistan.

The new council aims to provide a platform for Pakistani entrepreneurs to expand their businesses across the UAE, explore regional markets, and engage in joint ventures, including conferences, trade shows, and delegate exchanges. It will also represent and protect the interests of Pakistani businesses, ensuring they benefit from the diverse services offered by the Sharjah Chamber.

Syed Muhammad Tahir expressed the Pakistani business community’s gratitude for SCCI’s efforts in creating advanced economic opportunities for investors and innovators. He emphasized the council’s critical role in enhancing private sector engagement within Sharjah’s economy and fostering future collaborations between the business communities of both nations.

The inauguration ceremony included a presentation on the mission and strategic goals of the business councils under SCCI. These councils aim to boost bilateral cooperation and increase trade and investment volumes between Sharjah and the represented countries, supporting SCCI’s overarching objectives and promoting cross-sector collaboration.
