Dubai, UAE – Dubai is set to become the epicenter of international sports this week, with a range of high-profile competitions kicking off in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council. From cricket and rugby to fitness conferences and Special Olympics events, the city will host over 15 diverse and competitive international and community sporting events.
The week-long series of events begins today, Thursday, October 3, with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Ten teams will compete in the prestigious cricket tournament, which will conclude on October 20, with the final match crowning the world champion. Australia, the six-time defending champion, is grouped with India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in Group A, while Group B features Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Scotland. Matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Meanwhile, Dubai will also host the qualifiers for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup at The Sevens Dubai. Six teams, including Hong Kong, Fiji, Madagascar, the Netherlands, Samoa, and Spain, will compete over three weekends as part of the World Rugby’s initiative to grow women’s rugby globally.
Adding to the city’s fitness-driven atmosphere, the MEFIT Pro Health and Fitness Conference begins today at the Marriott Hotel on Palm Jumeirah. The three-day event will feature 30 speakers and 80 sessions focused on the latest trends and challenges in the fitness industry, with over 1,400 participants from 39 countries expected to attend.
Another milestone event, the first Special Olympics MENA Regional Sailing Competition, is also taking place this week. Organized by the Dubai International Marine Club in collaboration with the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, the competition features teams from Oman, Kuwait, Morocco, Bahrain, and Syria. This marks the first time the event has been held in the Middle East.
Additionally, Dubai will host the Wildcards Tournament for the Premier Padel P1 Dubai International Championship from October 4 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium. This event is part of a global padel series spanning five continents and 18 countries.
Other notable events this week include the Fundamental Swimming Championship for Academies at the Hamdan Sports Complex, the AHPC Show Jumping Championship at the Al Habtoor Polo Club and Resort, and the Trail Seeker Mountain Bike Challenge at Mushrif Park.
