Dubai, UAE – The Emeril Men’s Team and Dutco Women’s Team have emerged victorious in the badminton competition of the 6th Labor Sports Tournament, the largest sporting event for laborers in Dubai. Organized by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in collaboration with the Permanent Committee of Labor Affairs in Dubai, Dubai Police, and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security, the tournament is held under the banner “Their Happiness is Our Goal.”
The ongoing tournament, which runs until February 23, 2025, features a staggering participation of 46,000 male and female laborers from 270 companies, competing across 12 sports at 10 different venues in Dubai.
In the men’s final, the Emeril Team clinched the title by defeating Emdad 2-0, with Emdad finishing as runners-up and Al-Ghurair securing third place. Shoba Constructions took fourth place. In the women’s category, Dutco claimed victory over ENOC with a 2-1 win, while ENOC secured second place, followed by Emeril in third and Emdad in fourth.
The badminton competition, held at the Dulsco Indoor Hall in Al-Quoz, saw 37 teams compete. Winners were honored with cups and medals by Abdulla Shukri, Secretary General of the Permanent Committee of Labor Affairs in Dubai, and Omar Al-Kindi, Senior Specialist of Community Events at DSC. Additionally, fans were awarded prizes for winning sub-competitions held on the sidelines of the event.
Upcoming competitions in the Labor Sports Tournament include kabaddi on October 6 at TOSS Academy in Al Garhoud, arm wrestling on October 13 at Shoba Residence in Al-Quoz, and tug-of-war on October 20 at Dubai Municipality pitches in Muhaisna.
This year’s edition marks a significant increase in participation, with over 46,000 laborers from 31 nationalities, forming 873 teams from 270 companies. The tournament, spanning six months from September 15, 2024, to February 23, 2025, offers an expanded slate of events, including more women’s competitions in badminton, volleyball, yoga, and throwball.
The Labor Sports Tournament, organized by DSC, aims to promote physical fitness, enhance social connections, and provide laborers with a break from their daily routines. The event aligns with DSC’s strategy to create a happy and vibrant sports community, while boosting laborers’ morale and productivity.
