Dubai, UAE – Dubai Police teams have clinched the top three spots in the shooting competition at the 12th edition of the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament, the largest event of its kind organized by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC). The tournament, aimed at attracting women sports talents and promoting a culture of women’s sports, has seen participation from 1,200 female athletes representing various governmental, semi-governmental, and private entities. The tournament will conclude on October 30, 2024.

The team of Ruqayyah Makki and Rawdha Mohammed Maliki from Dubai Police secured first place in the shooting competition, followed by the team of Nada Al-Khatib and Aalya Al-Baloushi, also from Dubai Police, in second place. The third place was taken by the team of Maryam Abbas and Asma Al-Kamdi, again from Dubai Police. The tournament featured over 80 teams competing fiercely for the titles.

This year, the 3×3 basketball competition was added to the event lineup, beginning on October 28 and running until October 30. Mr. Redha Al Mansouri, CEO of the Fresh Market and a sponsor of the tournament, expressed his enthusiasm for supporting women’s sports in the UAE. He emphasized the importance of promoting health and well-being among participants by providing access to fresh, nutritious produce.

“At The Fresh Market, we are thrilled to support women across the UAE as proud participants in the Dubai Sports Council’s Sheikha Hind Women’s Tournament for the second year in a row,” stated Mr. Al Mansouri. “Our commitment to empowering women nationwide remains unwavering. We believe that offering healthy choices can enhance the well-being of the talented women involved in this tournament and beyond.”

Participants in the tournament compete in eight individual and team sports competitions: bowling, running, cycling, padel, badminton, shooting, obstacles challenge, and 3×3 basketball. All competitions are held in the evening to accommodate participants’ work schedules. The rules align with local federations and are adapted to suit the abilities of female athletes from various sectors.
