Hong Kong: The excitement is building as the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, a much-anticipated and fast-paced cricket tournament, makes a grand return from November 1 to November 3. Hosted at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground, this year’s event promises intense action with a unique carnival atmosphere, complete with live performances, great music, and an array of culinary delights.
The 2024 tournament will feature 12 teams, each aiming for glory in a six-a-side format. Divided into four pools, each team will compete in a round-robin style, setting the stage for a thrilling three-day cricket fest. The pools are as follows:
- Pool A: Hosts Hong Kong, South Africa, and New Zealand
- Pool B: Australia, England, and Nepal
- Pool C: India, Pakistan, and UAE, with India led by Robin Uthappa
- Pool D: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Oman
The first match will see South Africa facing off against the hosts, Hong Kong, and day one will also bring the much-anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.
The tournament format will see the top two teams from each pool advance to the quarter-finals, with winners progressing to the semi-finals. Teams eliminated in the quarter-finals will enter the Plate semifinals, while those finishing last in each pool will compete in the Bowl Competition. The action-packed schedule includes a total of 29 matches, with every day offering a fresh dose of excitement for cricket fans.
In a special event on the final day, a Women’s Exhibition Match has been arranged to mark the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, adding another layer of celebration to the cricket extravaganza.
