Dubai, UAE – Desert Vipers fast bowler Luke Wood and wicket-keeper-batter Azam Khan led the launch of the team’s sustainable match kit at the SEE Institute in Dubai. The new kit, made from recycled polyester, is set for season three of the DP World ILT20. Both players expressed their approval of the kit’s look and feel, while also sharing optimism for the team’s upcoming performance in the tournament.
Azam Khan, reflecting on the kit, said wearing it reminded him of his participation in the DP World ILT20 with the Desert Vipers. “I am very excited about being back with the Vipers. Even though the tournament is a bit far away, wearing the kit made me feel much closer to the tournament,” he said. Azam also praised the design and comfort of the shirt, which is made from recycled material. “I thought it would not be as breathable, but it is very nice and comfortable.”
Luke Wood agreed, adding that the new kit felt like a football shirt due to its material and fit. “It is great to put the jersey back on, and it feels like the tournament is getting closer. The material is nice, and I like the fitting as well. Most importantly, it is breathable,” he said.
Azam highlighted the importance of the team’s sustainability initiatives, hoping other teams would follow their example. “This is helping the planet. I still have the aluminum bottles from last season, and I do not use plastic at home,” he said. “We all want to contribute and make the world a better place to live in. These are the small changes we can make.”
Desert Vipers CEO Phil Oliver expressed satisfaction with the team’s sustainability efforts. “We are delighted to unveil our playing kit for season three of the DP World ILT20,” he said. He emphasized the significance of their partnership with Palm Fit, which offers UAE-made sustainable sportswear, reducing carbon emissions associated with the kit by over fifty percent.
Looking ahead to season three, Azam Khan shared his preparation plans, stating that he would practice at home in a domestic tournament in Pakistan in December. Luke Wood mentioned his participation in the Abu Dhabi T10 and possibly the Lanka T10, planning to arrive early in Dubai for training.
Both players expressed excitement about reuniting with the squad and their ambitions for the coming season. Azam said, “Last year, I thought we had the best team in the tournament. I am excited to play alongside them again and really want to win this tournament.” Luke Wood added, “When we come together as a group, our expectation is to try and win the whole thing.”
New players joining the squad include Pakistan top-order batter Fakhar Zaman, ex-England under-19 captain Max Holden, England seam bowler David Payne, and New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson. They join a talented roster featuring star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, Pakistan left-armer Mohammad Amir, and leading run-scorer Alex Hales from season one. UAE players Ali Naseer and Tanish Suri are also part of the squad.
The Desert Vipers are poised for a strong performance in the upcoming DP World ILT20 season, with sustainability at the forefront of their efforts.
