Garrison Academy Wins Sindh Pink Football Championship

Karachi, Sindh: The Sindh Pink Football Championship, a three-day event organized by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, concluded with Garrison Football Academy clinching the title at the newly inaugurated Lyari International Football Stadium. Karachi United Football Team finished as runners-up, while Diya Football Team secured third place in the tournament.

The championship, which featured 16 teams from across Sindh, was inaugurated on December 6 by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The opening ceremony was a grand affair, attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Baksh Khan Mahar, other cabinet members, parliamentarians, and thousands of football fans.

Participating teams included Larkana Lions, Hazara Women’s Football, Overseas Women’s Football Club, Karachi United, Ghotki Warriors, Sukkur Sultans, and several other notable clubs. The event showcased a high level of skill and sportsmanship, drawing significant attention to women’s football in the region.

Prize Distribution

The final match, held on December 8, concluded with the winning team receiving a cash prize of PKR 300,000, while the runner-up was awarded PKR 200,000. The third and fourth-placed teams received PKR 75,000 and PKR 50,000, respectively. Medals, shields, and certificates were distributed to the players for their outstanding performances.

Closing Ceremony Highlights

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Secretary of Sports Abdul Aleem Lashari expressed his gratitude to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the people of Lyari for their support. He also commended the Minister for Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, for his commitment to promoting sports in the province.

Lashari announced a series of upcoming sports initiatives, including the participation of Sindh teams in the Quaid-e-Azam Games in Islamabad and the introduction of free sports coaching classes during winter holidays. He also revealed plans for major events like the National Games in February, Pink Sports Week in March, and Sindh Games in April. A first-ever E-Sports Championship is also in the pipeline, promising to be a groundbreaking event.

The Sindh Pink Football Championship has been hailed as a milestone for women’s sports in the province, setting the stage for greater opportunities and recognition for female athletes.
