Dubai, UAE – UAE off-spinning all-rounder Dhruv Parashar is determined to make a mark in the upcoming DP World ILT20 by positioning himself as a key powerplay bowler for the Desert Vipers. The 20-year-old, recently picked by the Vipers in the UAE player draft, has already showcased his prowess, having bowled in the powerplays in 12 of his 18 senior international appearances.
Parashar’s approach is clear and strategic. In a recent Vipers Voices podcast, he explained, “I enjoy the challenge because there are not many spinners that bowl in the power play. My approach is that it is all about where I bowl the ball. I just make sure I bowl according to my field because we only (are allowed to) have two (fielders) outside the ring. No matter what I do, I just make sure I get the batter to hit me where I want him to hit me.”
His journey to this role began during his stint as a net bowler for the Vipers in season two of the DP World ILT20. He utilized the opportunity to practice with new balls, gradually developing his technique and confidence.
Parashar’s hard work paid off in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B in Qatar, where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets and an economy rate of 5.10 runs per over. His exceptional performance was pivotal in leading the UAE to title glory against several regional teams.
Reflecting on his return to the Vipers, Parashar expressed pride in his progress. “You know, I worked very hard to get back in the team and now I just cannot wait to get started,” he said. His relationship with Carl Crowe, the Vipers’ bowling coach, has been instrumental in his development, providing him with valuable T20-specific skills and tactical insights.
Having grown up in the UAE, Parashar appreciates the transformative impact of the DP World ILT20 on local cricket. He believes the league is a significant motivator for young UAE cricketers and is proud to be part of this growing competition.
Looking ahead, Parashar is optimistic about the Desert Vipers’ prospects in season three of the ILT20. With aspirations to win the championship, he is confident in the team’s capabilities under the leadership of New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson.
The Desert Vipers will begin their campaign on January 12th against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
