Ras Al Khaimah, UAE – Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, participated in the UAE Farmers Council meeting held at the farm of Mohammed Al Marzouqi in Ras Al Khaimah. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to support local farmers in advancing sustainable agricultural projects and aligned with the newly launched ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme. This initiative, inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aims to establish a climate-smart agricultural sector to bolster national food security.
The meeting explored strategies to increase crop productivity and address farmers’ concerns, including sustainable farming practices, pest control, modern agricultural training, and water-use efficiency. Farmers emphasized the need for enhanced support from the Ministry and local authorities, signaling a collective commitment to fostering a resilient agricultural system.
Dr. Amna Al Dahak highlighted the UAE’s dedication to empowering farmers through advanced technologies and sustainable strategies. She stated:
“The launch of the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme and the National Agriculture Centre reflects our unwavering commitment to transforming the agricultural sector. By equipping farmers with modern tools and knowledge, we are creating a foundation for sustainable national food security while ensuring community participation in this critical mission.”
Empowering the Next Generation of Farmers
In a parallel initiative, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment hosted the “Next Generation of Farmers” meeting at its Dubai headquarters. The event brought together young Emirati farmers to discuss climate-smart agriculture and strategies for overcoming challenges such as water scarcity and limited arable land.
Dr. Amna Al Dahak emphasized the pivotal role of youth in shaping the UAE’s agricultural future:
“Young farmers represent the backbone of our sustainable food security ambitions. With initiatives like the National Agriculture Centre, we aim to empower the next generation to lead transformative projects and implement modern, water-efficient farming technologies.”
The meeting also addressed legislation and partnerships with international organizations and the private sector to support modern farming systems. Topics included closed farming systems that reduce water usage by 90%, promoting environmental protection, and the development of sustainable natural resources.
Collaborative Vision for Sustainability
Both meetings underscored the UAE’s holistic approach to achieving sustainability through collaboration. High-ranking officials, including Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and other senior leaders attended, reaffirming the government’s support for farmers and sustainable development goals.
By engaging with farmers, especially youth, and implementing climate-smart technologies, the UAE continues to advance its vision of achieving Net Zero by 2050 while ensuring long-term food security.
