News DeskIslamabad: Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Romina Khurshid Alam, held a high-level meeting with Valerie Hickey, Global Director for Climate Change at the World Bank, to explore collaborative strategies for advancing Pakistan’s climate resilience and sustainability agenda.
“Strengthening Climate Action,” the discussions focused on deepening partnerships with international organizations like the World Bank to enhance climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building—key elements in achieving Pakistan’s ambitious climate goals under the Paris Agreement and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized the urgent need for increased financial and technical support to accelerate Pakistan’s transition towards climate resilience, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and disaster risk management. She highlighted the government’s commitment to green development initiatives and stressed the importance of leveraging global expertise and resources to build a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy.
Valerie Hickey reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s climate agenda, recognizing the country’s vulnerability to climate change and the need for enhanced mitigation and adaptation efforts. She emphasized the Bank’s role in facilitating climate-smart investments, innovative financing solutions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to help Pakistan navigate its climate challenges effectively.
Valerie Hickey also acknowledged and appreciated the leadership of Romina Khurshid Alam in strengthening Pakistan’s climate agenda and advocating it at the global level. Her role in amplifying Pakistan’s climate priorities on international platforms was recognized as instrumental in mobilizing support for the country’s climate resilience efforts.
