Lahore: The newly reconstructed Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore witnessed a historic moment today as Pakistan and New Zealand clashed in the inaugural match of the Tri-Nation Series. The event was marked by camaraderie between cricket officials and civic leaders, with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab meeting Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to review preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Champions Trophy.

Stadium Inauguration and Match Highlights
The match, held at the state-of-the-art Qaddafi Stadium, showcased not only thrilling cricket but also served as a platform to celebrate the stadium’s remarkable four-month renovation, completed under Chairman Naqvi’s leadership. Mayor Wahab, who attended the game alongside Naqvi, lauded the PCB chief’s efficiency, humorously dubbing it “Mohsin speed.” He praised the stadium’s aesthetics, declaring it “the most beautiful stadium in the world” and commended Naqvi for its timely completion ahead of the high-profile tournaments.

Strategic Discussions for Karachi’s Role
During their meeting, Naqvi and Wahab discussed logistical plans for Karachi’s National Stadium, which will host matches during the Tri-Nation Series and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Emphasis was placed on fan facilities, security, and transportation. Naqvi thanked the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for its support, underscoring the collaboration needed to elevate Pakistan’s cricketing infrastructure.

A Triumph of Timely Execution
Reflecting on the stadium’s transformation, Naqvi highlighted the challenges overcome during the intensive construction period from October 10, 2024, to February 7, 2025. “This journey, though demanding, has culminated in a world-class venue. I extend my gratitude to all who contributed to this achievement,” he stated. The inauguration ceremony, noted for its vibrancy, was also acknowledged by Wahab as a testament to Naqvi’s visionary leadership.

Looking Ahead
As Pakistan gears up to host international cricket events, the synergy between civic authorities and the PCB signals a renewed commitment to enhancing the country’s sporting landscape. With the Qaddafi Stadium now setting a global benchmark, fans eagerly anticipate the action-packed series and the Champions Trophy, poised to reinforce Pakistan’s stature as a premier cricket destination.
