Dubai, UAE – The National Youth Orchestra of Dubai (NYO Dubai) is set to make history as the first orchestra from the UAE to receive an official invitation to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. This landmark achievement will culminate in a performance on June 20, 2025, led by the esteemed American conductor and composer, Jonathan Winter Barrett. The performance will feature a collaboration with notable Emirati composer, Founder & President of the Emirati Musicians’ Association, and cultural ambassador, Ihab Darwish. Darwish will present the American Premiere of one of his musical compositions, showcasing the UAE’s rich artistic heritage and cultural aspirations on one of the world’s most prestigious stages. The invitation marks a pivotal moment not just for the National Youth Orchestra Dubai but for the UAE’s cultural and musical landscape.
Founded in 2018, NYO Dubai has grown to six orchestras with over 200 youth members from ages 5-18, representing 30 different nationalities. Co-founded by Amira Fouad and led by American conductor and composer Jonathan Winter Barrett, the orchestra is supported by an accomplished leadership team, including acclaimed violinist and Co-Founder Eva Gräsbeck (Head of Strings), bassoonist Jackie Hayter (Head of Winds), cellist Clara Asuaje (Lower Strings Specialist), and Ronald Vint (Head of Percussion).
On this momentous occasion, over 60 NYO Dubai members will perform at Carnegie Hall alongside two distinguished U.S.-based youth orchestras, from New Jersey and Los Angeles. This remarkable opportunity reflects not only the incredible talent of our young musicians but also an opportunity enabled by the support of distinguished sponsors who believe in our mission to create unforgettable memories as our orchestra takes the stage in one of the world’s most iconic venues.
Whilst in New York, the NYO Dubai has also been invited to perform at the prestigious United Nations Headquarters, further solidifying its place as the region’s top youth orchestra. The orchestra has also received a special invitation to visit the Lincoln Centre, the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera and the Julliard School enriching their musical education and international experience.
