Dubai: The 12th edition of the prestigious Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament is set to begin today (Saturday) at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex. Organized under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, and sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, the tournament is one of the largest community sporting events in the region.

Held annually during the holy month of Ramadan under the slogan ‘Limitless Capabilities’, the tournament has become a cornerstone of Dubai’s sporting calendar. This year, the event has attracted over 7,000 athletes from diverse nationalities and skill levels, who will compete across eleven sports, including volleyball, padel, jiu-jitsu, fencing, wheelchair basketball, running, cycling, tug-of-war, and obstacle course racing. Two new sports—badminton and Laser Run shooting—have been added to this year’s lineup, further expanding the tournament’s appeal.

The organizing committee has extended the registration period for most sports due to the overwhelming response, ensuring that athletes from all backgrounds have the opportunity to participate. Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the tournament’s growing significance. “The Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament has become the most important community sporting event, thanks to the support of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” he said.

Hareb highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting sports culture and fostering talent. “The event has contributed to spreading the culture of sports among different segments of society and has motivated both local and international athletes to compete at the highest level. It also attracts audiences who come to encourage participants in a beautiful, civilized manner during Ramadan,” he added.

One of the standout features of this year’s tournament is the return of the tug-of-war competition, a popular heritage sport that emphasizes teamwork and spirit. The tug-of-war event will be held in two stages: a group stage followed by a knockout round, with each match decided in a best-of-three format.

The tournament not only offers athletes the chance to compete but also provides an opportunity to win prestigious championships, financial rewards, and commemorative prizes. Registration for participation remains open through the tournament’s official website: www.nasst.ae.
