Dubai: As the globe gears up to honor International Women’s Day, Dubai Autodrome, a subsidiary of Union Properties, shines a spotlight on two trailblazing women whose dedication behind the scenes ensures the thrill and safety of motorsport events. Dr. Sandra Mrad and Maha Younes, hailing from Lebanon and Syria respectively, are breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated arena, inspiring a new generation of women to join the fast-paced world of racing.

Medical Excellence on the Track
Dr. Sandra Mrad, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Dubai Autodrome since October 2022, balances her role with her full-time position as an Emergency Medicine Consultant at American Hospital, Dubai. Tasked with overseeing medical and emergency services during high-octane events, she emphasizes preparedness through specialized training in rescue theory, scene management, and emergency care.

A veteran of elite competitions like the 24 Hours Dubai and the Asian Le Mans Series, Dr. Sandra thrives on the adrenaline of trackside medicine. “Working here merges emergency expertise with the dynamic world of motorsport. Every race demands adaptability, precision, and teamwork—it’s where medicine meets mission,” she said. The Asian Le Mans, she notes, remains a favorite for its blend of “speed, strategy, and endurance,” underscoring her passion for contributing to safer, world-class events.

Marshalling Excellence with Precision
Maha Younes, a seasoned Race Marshal with six years of experience, plays a pivotal role in maintaining race integrity and safety. Alongside her career in the private sector, she dedicates weekends to ensuring seamless track operations. “Our teamwork keeps races fair and safe. Every incident requires swift action—it’s intense but incredibly rewarding,” she shared.

Maha, who cherishes the camaraderie of Dubai Autodrome’s “united family,” highlights the growing inclusivity in motorsport. At the recent Asian Le Mans race, women constituted a third of the venue’s officials—a milestone she hopes will inspire others.

A Call to Aspiring Women
Both pioneers urge women to defy stereotypes and pursue roles in motorsport. “Believe in yourself, embrace challenges, and seek mentors,” advised Dr. Sandra. “This field needs passion and skill—gender should never limit ambition.”

Echoing her sentiment, Maha added, “Women belong in every corner of this industry. Step closer to the action—whether as officials, technicians, or leaders—and help drive its future.”

As International Women’s Day approaches, their stories embody the spirit of progress, proving that motorsport’s roar is powered not just by engines, but by the diverse voices shaping its journey forward.
