News DeskDubai, UAE – The inaugural edition of the Dubai Open Karate Championship concluded with resounding success, showcasing high standards of competition and an impressive turnout. Held at the indoor hall of Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club, the event brought together over 280 athletes from 13 teams, including government clubs and private academies from across the UAE.
Organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and the UAE Karate Federation in collaboration with Mentor Sports Academy, the championship featured Kata and Kumite competitions across multiple age categories. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader vision to nurture sporting talent in the emirate.
Major General Eng. Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razooqi, President of the UAE and Asian Karate Federations and Vice President of the International Karate Federation, crowned the winners alongside Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, Director of the Sports Talent Department at DSC.
Al Razooqi lauded the tournament’s success and reaffirmed the UAE Karate Federation’s commitment to supporting such events. “These championships are vital for the growth of karate and the development of young athletes,” he said, stressing the importance of continued technical and logistical support for future editions.
Al Mahri echoed this sentiment, noting the championship’s significant role in developing sports talent. “The strong participation and the level of competition reflect the bright future of karate in the UAE,” he stated, while also hinting at plans for the event’s future expansion.
Talent at the Forefront
Tournament Director Moataz Al Salam, who also serves as the Talent Care Programme Coordinator at the UAE Karate Federation, highlighted the challenge and importance of organizing competitions for younger athletes. He noted the emergence of several promising talents, including Hamza Abdul Salam, Rashid Al Hajjaj, Faisal Al Khalidi, Saif Al Qaidi, and Khalifa Al Kindi, who stood out in the junior and youth categories.
Championing Inclusion
In a commendable display of inclusivity, the championship also welcomed the participation of people of determination, underscoring the organisers’ commitment to social integration and equal opportunity in sports.
