Dubai, UAE – Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai, welcomed a delegation from the Dubai Public Prosecution, headed by Counselor Essam Issa Al Humaidan, Dubai’s Attorney General, and Counselor Yousef Al Mutawa, Assistant Attorney General, during an official visit to the Document Examination Center. The visit was also attended by Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General, along with assistant directors and senior executive leaders.
The visiting delegation also included Counselor Sami Al Shamsi, Senior Advocate General and Head of Dubai Prosecution; Counselor Dr. Ali Hamid bin Khatem, Advocate General and Head of Nationality and Residency Prosecution; Counselor Yousef Foulad, Senior Advocate General and Head of Deira Prosecution; Counselor Salah Frousha Al Falasi, Advocate General and Head of Traffic and Road Prosecution; Mustafa Al Shaheen, Director of the Attorney General’s Office; and Tareq Saif, Head of Community Communication.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the work mechanisms of the center, one of the UAE’s leading specialized entities in travel document verification. The center plays a vital role in identity verification and enhancing border security. Joint integration projects between the two entities were also discussed, aiming to strengthen overall security efforts.

The Attorney General was introduced to the latest technologies used in detecting document fraud, including advanced AI-powered systems for document analysis and identification of sophisticated forgery patterns. Real-life cases and forged travel documents were showcased, highlighting fraud attempts and identity impersonation incidents successfully handled by the center’s experts.
He praised the significant development in the center’s ability to detect forged documents, emphasizing that this progress is the result of sustained investment in modern technologies and specialized human resource training, contributing directly to strengthening document security and limiting tampering or forgery attempts.
The Attorney General further noted that the center operates according to the highest international standards and maintains close collaboration with the Public Prosecution and other relevant authorities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all circulating documents.
Lt. General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri stressed that this visit reflects the spirit of integration and coordination between judicial and security entities in Dubai. He remarked:
“We are honored by the visit of The Attorney General, which reaffirms the pivotal role of specialized centers in supporting judicial operations and reinforces a collaborative approach to justice and protection against document fraud.”
He added, “Passport control officers at Dubai’s ports are certified forgery detection experts, undergoing advanced training in document verification and identity validation. The center holds regular training sessions to enhance their skills and keep pace with the latest forgery methods and technologies.”

Document Examination Advisor Aqeel Al Najjar stated: “We examine all documents related to travel procedures, including residence permits, driver’s licenses, stamps, and all components of the passport.” He highlighted that the examinations are conducted using modern tools and software by a specialized and well-trained team. These efforts have yielded measurable results, with recent statistics from the center showing a noticeable increase in the detection of forged documents, reflecting the improved efficiency of the inspection and auditing system.
He also revealed that forged foreign passport cases uncovered by the center in 2024 (1914), and the first half of 2025 (425) have significantly increased. Furthermore, 170 specialized training courses were delivered to enhance the competencies of the Directorate’s staff in document auditing and verification.
It is worth noting that the Document Examination Center at GDRFA Dubai has received international accreditation and ISO certification from the Emirates International Accreditation Center, officially recognizing it as a forensic laboratory for travel document inspection in the UAE. This milestone underscores the Directorate’s commitment to globally recognized technical standards.

The visit also included an in-depth discussion on the phenomenon of altered facial features due to cosmetic surgery. Emphasis was placed on the importance of updating passport photos to reflect one’s true identity and avoid complications or suspicion at border crossings. Individuals undergoing major facial changes were advised to update their official documents with the relevant authorities.
