Abu Dhabi: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, participated in a high-level dialogue session hosted by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) in Abu Dhabi today, where he emphasized the growing strength and future potential of UAE-Pakistan relations.
The event, titled “Bilateral Relations Between the UAE and Pakistan”, was moderated by Nasser Al Banna and warmly opened by Dr. Sultan Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of ECSSR, who welcomed Ambassador Tirmizi to the Centre.
Speaking to an audience of researchers, policymakers, and analysts, Ambassador Tirmizi underscored the deep-rooted and multifaceted ties between the two brotherly nations. “Our relationship is based on shared values, cultural closeness, and the contribution of over 1.7 million Pakistanis living and working in the UAE,” he noted.

He highlighted recent high-level diplomatic engagements that have elevated the relationship, including the visits of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Pakistan. He also referenced the successful conclusion of the 12th Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission, calling it a sign of deepening bilateral cooperation.
On regional security, Ambassador Tirmizi reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to combat terrorism and maintain peace. He recalled Pakistan’s sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism and expressed Islamabad’s continued readiness to work alongside the UAE to counter non-state threats.
Turning to Middle East developments, the Ambassador called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Gaza and praised the UAE’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts. He advocated for inclusive dialogue and diplomacy as essential tools in resolving regional conflicts.
Responding to a question on the Indus Waters Treaty between Pakistan and India, Ambassador Tirmizi clarified that the 1960 agreement—brokered by the World Bank—cannot be suspended unilaterally. He cited the recent ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which upheld Pakistan’s stance and confirmed that India cannot withdraw from the treaty on its own.
On the economic front, Ambassador Tirmizi acknowledged the steady rise in Emirati investment in Pakistan, noting untapped potential in sectors such as ports, logistics, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure. He highlighted Karachi Port’s development and Pakistan’s strategic geographic location as vital elements of regional connectivity.

He also called for deeper collaboration between academic and research institutions in both countries, proposing increased joint research and knowledge exchange. “Such partnerships can enhance bilateral dialogue and help address shared global challenges,” he stated.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, with Emirati participants showing keen interest in furthering cooperation with Pakistan across strategic sectors.
The event marked another step forward in the strengthening of Pakistan-UAE relations, reflecting a shared vision for regional stability, economic growth, and mutual understanding.
