Dubai, UAE – Emirates has announced a major change to its inflight safety policy, banning the use of power banks onboard all its flights starting Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The new regulation, introduced following a comprehensive safety review, prohibits passengers from using rechargeable battery packs of any kind during the flight. While travellers will still be allowed to carry a single power bank under strict conditions, charging personal devices or the power bank itself during the flight will no longer be permitted.
Under the updated rules, Emirates passengers may carry one power bank with a capacity of less than 100 Watt Hours. The device must have its capacity clearly labelled, cannot be stored in the aircraft’s overhead compartments, and must be kept either in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front.
As per existing international aviation safety guidelines, power banks remain strictly prohibited in checked baggage.

An Emirates spokesperson explained the reasoning behind the move:
“After a comprehensive safety review, Emirates is taking a firm and proactive stance to mitigate risk when it comes to power banks onboard. There has been a significant growth in customers using power banks in recent years, resulting in an increasing number of lithium battery-related incidents onboard flights across the wider aviation industry.”
The ban comes amid rising global concerns over lithium-ion battery safety, with airlines worldwide tightening regulations to prevent potential fire hazards.
