Dubai: The DP World ILT20 Development Tournament is back for its third edition at the ICC Academy, offering UAE’s brightest cricketing prospects a stage to shine ahead of the main league and the highly anticipated Season 4 Player Auction.
The 18-match event, featuring six teams in a round-robin format from August 24 to September 3, is being streamed live — on Fancode in India and Styx Sports worldwide — ensuring that players perform under the spotlight.
David White, CEO of DP World ILT20, underlined the growing importance of the competition. “It’s a great opportunity for these young men to stake a claim for the full tournament. Last year, we saw a big lift in standards, and I’m confident this edition will be even stronger,” he said.
White emphasised that the tournament is not only sharpening cricketing skills but also raising levels of professionalism. “From strength and conditioning to mindset, the growth has been clear. Several players have used this tournament as a springboard into the main event.”
With the Player Auction scheduled soon after the Asia Cup 2025, the development tournament has added significance as franchises eye UAE talent to fill mandatory playing XI slots. “If they get picked, they won’t just play the league — they’ll train with world-class coaches,” White noted.
The DP World ILT20 Season 4 will run from December 2 to January 4, cementing its place in cricket’s global calendar. “When people talk about the big leagues now, they mention DP World ILT20. We’re mainstream, growing bigger, and December-January gives us a festive window to showcase top-level cricket,” White said.
White also pointed out the league’s impact on UAE cricket. “The national team has gained depth. Their qualification for the Asia Cup and ability to compete with top nations is proof. Playing alongside Afghanistan and Pakistan in ILT20 conditions has made them stronger,” he added.
