UAE’s University of Sharjah Prepares for 2025 FISU University World Cup Football

SHARJAH – Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for Sports Development and Competitiveness at the Ministry of Sports and President of the UAE School and University Sports Federation (UAESUSF), has reviewed the University of Sharjah’s preparations for the upcoming 2025 FISU University World Cup Football. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Dalian, China, from September 17 to 28.

Sheikh Suhail bin Butti visited the team during a recent training session, meeting with players and staff to assess the team’s readiness for the international competition, which will feature 16 national teams. During his visit, he praised the players and encouraged them to perform at their best, representing the nation with excellence and sportsmanship.

Ministry of Sports Supports Youth Athletes

Sheikh Suhail highlighted the Ministry of Sports’ ongoing commitment to supporting student athletes, a key focus under the leadership of Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports. He commended the Minister’s efforts to promote university sports and foster global connections for Emirati youth through international competitions, in line with the UAE’s leadership directives.

“The UAE team’s participation highlights the country’s dedication to engaging its youth on global platforms,” Sheikh Suhail bin Butti stated. “More than just a championship, this event represents the fundamental values upheld by FISU: excellence, respect, teamwork, and appreciation for academic and cultural diversity.”

National Strategy for Sports

The UAE has placed a strong emphasis on university-level sports as a significant part of its National Sports Strategy 2031. By fostering a vibrant university sports culture, these initiatives aim to inspire future generations, enhance social cohesion, and strengthen the competitiveness of Emirati athletes. The goal is to establish a robust foundation for the future of national sports and increase participation across all levels of society.

The University of Sharjah’s team, which recently won the latest edition of the University Games organized by UAESUSF, is seen as a strong contender to represent the UAE on the international stage. Sheikh Suhail bin Butti expressed great confidence in the team’s potential and capabilities.
