Dubai, UAE – Under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, and Patron of Dubai Quality Group, the Dubai Quality Group (DQG) and Balsam Academy for Medical Education and Research have announced the launch of the 2nd cycle of the Global Medical Excellence Award. The prestigious award, a key initiative in line with the UAE leadership’s vision for sustainable development and global competitiveness, is now accepting applications from medical and healthcare institutions worldwide.

The award aims to promote innovation, institutional excellence, and the application of international best practices in the medical field. It seeks to enhance performance, resilience, and sustainability within the healthcare sector by fostering a culture of quality and empowering medical and healthcare professionals locally, regionally, and internationally.

Samira Mohammed, Director General of Dubai Quality Group, highlighted that the initiative is in direct alignment with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. “Through this initiative, we seek to position the UAE as a hub of medical excellence and medical tourism, encourage innovative healthcare initiatives, and ultimately recognize institutions and individuals who have made a lasting impact in the healthcare sector,” she stated.

The 2nd cycle of the award has been enhanced with updated categories to include hospitals, clinics, individuals, and medical education. Winners will be recognized at different levels—platinum, gold, silver, and bronze—based on a rigorous assessment process that includes site visits and desktop evaluations. Samira Mohammed emphasized the group’s commitment to transparency and impartiality, relying on approved international standards and a carefully selected evaluation team.

Applications will be accepted online via the DQG website for two and a half months starting from September 10, 2025, to ensure participants have ample time to prepare. The process will involve submitting application files, a desk evaluation, and site visits for qualified applicants, culminating in an award ceremony where winners will be honored by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

Dr. Bassam Darwish, Founder and President of Balsam Academy for Medical Education and Research, noted the unique timing of the award’s launch, which coincides with the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Conference. The two-day conference, held in cooperation with the International Society for Medical Artificial Intelligence, will feature approximately 30 international experts and speakers.

During the conference, the “Godfather of Medicine in the UAE” initiative will also be held to commemorate the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, honoring distinguished individuals and institutions in health and humanitarian work. The winners of both the award and the initiative will be announced and presented with their accolades during the closing ceremony, which will be attended by prominent figures and innovators in healthcare.

Interested institutions and individuals can submit their applications online in English at https://www.dqg.org/global-medical-excellence-award.
