Emirates Foundation and Occidental Renew Strategic Partnership
4 months ago

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Emirates Foundation has renewed its long-standing partnership with Occidental in a move aimed at deepening social impact and advancing sustainability initiatives across the UAE.

The agreement reinforces both organisations’ shared commitment to empowering communities, championing environmental responsibility and enhancing quality of life through flagship national programmes such as Takatof, Sanid, Active Abu Dhabi, Dawamee and the Retirees Program.

A major focus of the renewed collaboration is continued support for ne’ma – the National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, which seeks to curb food waste, drive behavioural change and encourage responsible consumption. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategic vision and forms a key pillar of Emirates Foundation’s sustainability agenda.

Under the partnership, Emirates Foundation will scale up ne’ma’s reach across the country by expanding its programmes within key food sectors, particularly hospitality, and intensifying capacity-building efforts to improve food waste measurement and monitoring.

The initiative will also advance policy development in priority areas, including:

  • Mandatory food loss and waste reporting supported by a national unified data platform
  • Mandatory Zero-Waste Event Guidelines for sustainable event planning
  • A national framework for surplus food redistribution and regulated food donation
  • Integrating updated FLW definitions and modernising import and distribution systems to bolster national food security

Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, CEO of Emirates Foundation, said the organisation’s collaboration with Occidental “goes beyond partnership”, describing it as a shared belief in the “power of sustainability and community action”.

“Through programmes such as ne’ma, we are inspiring collective responsibility and practical change toward a sustainable UAE,” he added.

Vicki Hollub, President and CEO of Occidental, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the UAE, saying: “Occidental is proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Emirates Foundation, reflecting our shared commitment to Abu Dhabi’s sustainability, human development and community engagement.”

The renewed partnership underscores the collective efforts of both entities to build a more resilient, sustainable and socially engaged society.
