Berlin, UAE – Christmas in Berlin is set to shine brighter than ever this year, with more than 90 Christmas and winter markets transforming the German capital into a festive wonderland. From traditional and Nordic-inspired settings to queer, creative and eco-friendly editions, the city is offering its most diverse seasonal lineup yet, according to visitBerlin.
Several markets opened ahead of the official 24 November start, helping Berliners ease into the holiday spirit. Seasonal favourites such as Winterwelt at Potsdamer Platz—with its popular toboggan run—have already launched, alongside LGBTQIA* Winterdays and Christmas Avenue at Nollendorfplatz, the Glühwald at Uber Platz in Friedrichshain, Lichtenberger Winterzeit, Berliner Wintertraum in Treptow-Köpenick, and Spandauer Winterland.
Revival of a Classic and Debut of New Highlights
One of Berlin’s most iconic Christmas markets has returned to its original home: the WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt. Thousands of twinkling lights and ornaments create a festive backdrop in what is arguably the city’s most atmospheric setting.
Also new this year is the KaDeWe Christmas Market on Wittenbergplatz, bringing stylishly curated huts and exclusive handcrafted gifts to City West. The former Tegel Airport grounds will host a winter market at the Alte Frachtkantine on 29 and 30 November, while the Christmas Market at the Winter Quarters—a collaboration between the Wendenschloss lido and the Napoleon complex—adds a cultural programme and ice rink to the seasonal mix.

Dark Matter’s Forest – Winterlights debuts an immersive experience featuring 600 illuminated fir trees inside a former transformer hall, complemented by its own ice rink. Meanwhile, Potsdamer Platz has added a new 600-sqm covered rink, extending skating fun well into January.
Alternative and Design-Focused Markets Take Centre Stage
Berlin’s reputation for creativity is reflected in its alternative market scene. The Heissa Holzmarkt Winter Festival blends street food, art and club culture, while Holy Shit Shopping—on 29 and 30 November—brings together more than 250 local creatives for its 20th anniversary edition.
Design lovers can visit the Weihnachtsrodeo at the Colosseum on 13 and 14 December, featuring handmade goods from independent artisans. Cultural hotspot Silent Green in Wedding will hold its Winterfest on 6 and 7 December, offering art, music and gastronomy.
For a touch of Scandinavia, the Lucia Christmas Market at the Kulturbrauerei remains a crowd favourite with its selection of Nordic mulled wines. British traditions come alive at St. George’s Church on 6 December, complete with carol singing, mince pies and Christmas pudding.
Nature lovers can enjoy rural charm at the Domäne Dahlem Advent Market, running every Advent weekend, or visit the Forest Christmas Market at the Grunewald Forestry Office on 14 December, featuring forest demonstrations and horse showcases.
Citywide Light Installations Create a Magical Winter Ambience
The capital’s famous shopping boulevards—Kurfürstendamm and Tauentzienstraße—are once again illuminated with classic Christmas lights. The Christmas Garden at the Botanic Garden and Christmas at the Tierpark continue to draw visitors with large-scale light installations and enchanted walking trails.

At the Humboldt Forum, the Winter Market comes alive with a laser show in the Schlüterhof twice weekly, while the Spree Terraces’ façade glows with festive projections each evening.
Berlin Rings in 2026 With a Massive Free NYE Celebration
Once the Christmas season winds down, Berlin shifts its focus to New Year’s celebrations. Under the motto “Yeah 2026”, the city will host a free New Year’s Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate, featuring Berlin DJs spinning pop, Afrobeats and electro along Straße des 17. Juni. A multi-minute fireworks spectacle will light up the Gate at midnight.
The event begins at 10pm, with access from 9:30pm via a free ticket. Only 20,000 tickets will be available, with details released by Kulturprojekte Berlin.
Beyond the main celebration, Berlin’s nightlife venues, restaurants and cultural institutions will offer countless other ways to welcome the new year.
