Ras Al Khaimah, UAE – The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has announced an ambitious three-year strategic plan aimed at positioning itself as the “North Star University” of the Northern Emirates, in line with the emirate’s rapid economic and tourism-driven transformation.
The new roadmap was unveiled during AURAK’s first strategy retreat and reflects the university’s vision to become a regional leader in higher education, research and innovation.
At the heart of the strategy is AURAK’s mission “to prepare future leaders through transformational, student-centered education that bridges academia and industry, advancing research and innovation to drive lasting societal impact.”
“In an era in which new technologies are making conventional approaches obsolete, higher education must reinvent itself,” said Professor Bassam Alameddine, President of AURAK. “The North Star university strategy has been created specifically to meet that challenge. It reinforces our commitment to excellence, innovation and societal impact as we collectively shape a university of distinction for the region and beyond.”
A central pillar of the strategy focuses on future-ready education, with curricula designed to be well-rounded, industry-aligned and responsive to the evolving demands of the global workforce. The university plans to embed advanced pedagogical tools, expand experiential learning opportunities and deliver a powerful blend of technical expertise and soft skills to better equip graduates for tomorrow’s job market.
The initiative is also aligned with the UAE Education Strategy 2030, which seeks to enhance educational quality, inclusivity and innovation while preparing future generations for workforce and societal needs.

AURAK’s growth ambitions mirror Ras Al Khaimah’s own economic rise as a key tourism and investment hub. According to figures from the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, the emirate recorded over 12 per cent growth in tourism revenues in 2024, alongside a 15 per cent increase in MICE visitors. The emirate welcomed 1.28 million visitors last year and is projected to reach 3.5 million by 2030, supported by dozens of major hospitality projects currently under development.
University officials believe the strategic plan will strengthen AURAK’s role in supporting the emirate’s long-term development goals while producing globally competitive graduates capable of driving sustainable economic and social progress.
