RAS AL KHAIMAH: His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, officially inaugurated the 14th edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival (RAKAF) on Friday.
Organized by the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research, the festival is being held under the theme ‘Civilizations’ at the historic Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village. The opening ceremony was attended by a number of ambassadors to the UAE and senior officials, marking the start of a dynamic cultural program running until February 8.
This year’s festival serves as a global convergence of talent, bringing together more than 100 artists from 49 countries. The event showcases a diverse array of artworks and creative experiences designed to foster cross-cultural dialogue.
Art as a Pillar of Development
Speaking at the inauguration, H.H. Sheikh Saud affirmed that supporting the arts is vital not only for strengthening national and historical identity but also for deepening mutual understanding among peoples.
Significantly, the Ruler linked cultural growth to economic strategy, noting that the arts “support economic diversification through the growth of the creative industries.” He emphasized that a thriving creative sector enhances Ras Al Khaimah’s attractiveness across multiple sectors and reinforces its competitiveness as a destination for high-quality global events.

“The festival reflects Ras Al Khaimah’s rich cultural and artistic heritage and embodies its vision of embedding the values and aesthetics of art and culture as key pillars of sustainable development.” H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi
A Tour of ‘Civilizations’
Following the opening, H.H. Sheikh Saud toured the festival grounds, viewing a selection of artworks that interpret the theme ‘Civilizations’ as a bridge between memory and contemporary reality. He engaged with participating artists, listening to explanations of the concepts, styles, and techniques behind their work.
His Highness welcomed the international participants and commended the organizers and partners for their efforts in expanding community engagement and ensuring the sustainability of the Emirate’s artistic movement.
An Integrated Cultural Experience
Beyond the visual art exhibitions, the Ruler was briefed on the festival’s extensive agenda. The program features interactive workshops, live performances, panel discussions, and educational experiences. These elements are designed to offer an integrated cultural experience that combines knowledge-building with direct artistic engagement, appealing to all segments of society.
By activating heritage sites like Al Jazeera Al Hamra as spaces for creativity, the Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival continues to strengthen the Emirate’s position on the cultural map of the UAE and the wider region.
