Dubai, UAE – Alibaba.com, one of the world’s largest B2B e-commerce platforms, has marked its UAE debut at Gulfood 2026, underscoring a growing focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the Gulf as the region accelerates economic diversification and non-oil trade growth.

As the UAE strengthens its position as a global trade and logistics hub, SMEs are playing an increasingly important role in driving exports and private-sector expansion. However, many businesses face operational challenges when entering international markets, including managing sourcing, payments, logistics, and quality control across multiple channels.

Alibaba.com is positioning its digital platform as a solution to these barriers. With more than 50 million active business buyers globally, the company connects suppliers and buyers across borders, enabling Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) companies to source products and access international markets through a single online ecosystem.

The platform supports trade across a range of commercial sectors, including consumer electronics, packaging and printing, apparel and beauty, home and garden, industrial supplies, and automotive parts. It also offers integrated tools such as secure payment systems and its Trade Assurance service, designed to help protect transactions from payment through delivery.

Beyond improving import efficiency, Alibaba.com is also targeting the region’s growing export ambitions. As local manufacturing and re-export activities expand, SMEs are increasingly seeking direct access to overseas demand without the cost of building extensive international infrastructure. The platform allows Gulf-based manufacturers and traders to connect with buyers in Europe, Asia, and emerging markets, lowering entry barriers for exports.

Industry observers note that China’s success in enabling SMEs to participate in global trade has relied heavily on integrated digital ecosystems that link manufacturing, logistics, payments, and online marketplaces. Alibaba.com has been a central part of that model for more than two decades — an approach that may offer lessons for the UAE as it builds a more innovation- and trade-led economy.

Reflecting its growing regional focus, Alibaba.com is participating in Gulfood 2026 in Dubai, with representatives present at Hall 4, Booth 418. The company is engaging directly with UAE and GCC businesses to discuss sourcing, exporting, and digital trade solutions.

As global supply chains continue to evolve and digital commerce becomes increasingly central to trade, platforms that simplify cross-border operations are seen as key enablers of SME competitiveness. For the UAE, such tools could play a role in helping local businesses diversify revenue streams and contribute to a more resilient, trade-driven economy.
