Dubai: Dubai Police organised a specialised workshop titled “Scenario Planning and Identifying Alternatives” for its employees, using gaming and simulation technologies to explore future security strategies.
The workshop was organised by the General Department of Training in cooperation with the Future Foresight Centre, as part of the approved training plan for general departments and police stations aimed at strengthening the future readiness of the policing system.
The workshop introduced participants to modern scientific approaches and their policing applications that can enhance security performance and support more proactive security planning.
Brigadier Dr Hamdan Ahmad Hamdan Al Ghassiya, Director of the Future Foresight Centre, emphasised that organising workshops on future security strategies aims to embed a culture of foresight and preparedness within the police force. He explained that the initiative seeks to prepare specialised cadres capable of developing forward looking visions for future projects across Dubai Police.
He added that the Future Foresight Centre represents one of the key pillars supporting efforts to strengthen security and safety. This approach reinforces Dubai Police’s position as a leading global law enforcement entity that adopts best practices to address rapidly evolving challenges.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Omar Balabidah Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the Future Foresight Centre, stated that Dubai Police is among the pioneering police organisations that apply modern scientific methods across various policing and security fields.
“These programmes equip trainees with essential skills that align with emerging security challenges and enhance policing capabilities that support decision making under different security conditions with high levels of understanding, efficiency, and effectiveness,” Al Suwaidi said.
He explained that the workshop covered several key topics, including introducing the main concepts and methodologies of future scenario planning, applying foresight gaming techniques, presenting specialised foresight and simulation games, and identifying projects where foresight gaming methods can be applied. The workshop also focused on developing the skills required to design foresight based simulation games.
Meanwhile, Fatima Rashid Al Alili, Director of the Future Scenarios Department, explained that gaming and simulation technologies are among the important tools used in future foresight. She noted that visits were conducted to all general departments and police stations to implement a practical experience aimed at developing multiple future scenarios. She added that the centre seeks to organise a series of similar workshops to prepare a generation of specialists in the field of future foresight.
“These initiatives help establish a solid foundation for planning, development, and needs assessment while translating future visions into scientific frameworks that define the desired future conditions,” Al Alili concluded.
