Dubai: The Pakistan Business Council Dubai (PBC) held a Zoom meeting with its members on 13 March 2026 to review the growing challenges businesses are facing amid the current geopolitical climate, particularly its effects on trade, logistics and day-to-day market operations.

Opening the session, Iftikhar Ali Tatlah, Vice Chairman Events & Media at PBC, welcomed participants and said the meeting had been called to create an open platform for members to share concerns and exchange practical ideas. He noted that many businesses are dealing with disruptions in logistics, supply chains and market stability, making it more important than ever for the business community to stay connected and work together.

In his remarks, Chairman Shabbir Merchant urged members to stay united and forward-looking. He acknowledged that the present situation has created uncertainty, but said it also calls for patience, careful planning and stronger collaboration between businesses. He assured members that the Council remains committed to supporting them and will continue engaging relevant authorities to help address their concerns.

Chairman Merchant also expressed strong solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, describing it as a second home for many in the Pakistani business community. He praised the UAE’s leadership for its continued focus on stability, economic progress and international cooperation, saying these efforts have helped create a supportive environment for businesses and residents alike. Senior Vice Chairman Kamran Ahmed Riaz spoke about discussions held with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). He said exporters, especially those in the fruits and meat sectors, are facing significant hurdles, but added that TDAP is already in touch with the relevant authorities to help ease trade operations. He encouraged businesses to remain hopeful while continuing to look for workable solutions.

Also addressing the meeting, Executive Advisor Mustafa Hemani called on members to remain focused and responsive to changing market conditions. He said difficult periods often bring new openings for innovation and partnership, and stressed the need for strategic thinking and unity across the business community.

Director Saleem Tabani, who also leads the real estate sector within PBC, advised members not to react with panic. He said businesses have already started adjusting to the situation by exploring alternative transport options, including land routes, while port operators and authorities are working to keep trade moving. Speaking on real estate, he said the outlook remains unclear for now and suggested reviewing the situation after Eid before holding a dedicated sector-specific meeting.

During the interactive session, members shared a wide range of concerns and suggestions.
