Dubai, UAE – Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, played a key role in a series of high-profile events at COP29 in Azerbaijan. Addressing critical climate-relevant topics such as Agriculture, Youth, and Water, Dr. Al Dahak underscored the UAE’s ongoing efforts to foster collaboration and inclusion, deemed essential for accelerating climate action into 2025 and looking ahead to COP30 in Brazil.
In her opening speech at the High-Level Plenary Event on Delivering on Climate Action Through Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation, Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the UAE’s leadership in leveraging agriculture and food systems to maintain a global temperature rise of 1.5 degrees. She urged nations to collaborate further, emphasizing, “As we embark on COP29 and look ahead to COP30, it is vital we continue the momentum established at COP28 and collaborate at scale. We must work hard to identify synergies between nations in terms of their food challenges and embrace opportunities to accelerate progress.”
At a COP29 event hosted by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and COP29 Presidency, Dr. Al Dahak joined COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev and other international representatives to discuss the role of cities and regions in achieving the Paris Agreement goals. During this event, titled “Baku to Belem and Beyond: COP Presidencies Bringing Cities, Urbanization and Multilevel Climate Action to the Heart of the Climate Agenda,” she provided updates on the COP28 Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships for Climate Action (CHAMP) initiative, endorsed by 74 nations.
Dr. Al Dahak also launched AIM for Scale’s first Innovation Package, “A Blueprint for Collective Action to Scale Access to High-quality, Farmer-centered Weather forecasts in LMICs,” at the AIM for Scale event. She stated, “AIM for Scale exists for one clear purpose: to find highly promising, climate-friendly agricultural innovations — and give them the support they need to reach as many farmers as possible worldwide.”
During the COP29 High-Level Special Event on the Adverse Impacts of Climate Change on the Decline of Water Basins, Dr. Al Dahak emphasized the importance of collaboration for bridging national and global climate security and highlighted the UAE’s sponsorship of the upcoming UN Water Conference in 2026. She mentioned, “The spirit of collaboration and cooperation will be on full display when we co-host the 2026 UN Water Conference, in partnership with Senegal.”
Dr. Al Dahak also participated in the COP29 IRENA Youth Circle event on Intergenerational Action for Tripling Renewable Energy by 2030, discussing the collaboration between educational institutions and governments to equip young people with skills for leadership in the renewable energy sector.
